Through theEffective reuse of donated items, theExchange collaborates with local organizations to provide home essentials for community members in need.
theExchange provides basic household essentials like beds, dressers, kitchen tables and kitchen items to members of our community experiencing hardships such as homelessness, domestic violence, aging and disability and natural disaster.

theExchange partners with nearly 40 La Crosse area social service, nonprofit and school programs to reach those who need the support the most.
In addition to supporting neighbors in need, theExchange serves as a point of reuse for our community. In 2024 theExchange received are repurposed more than 70 tons of household materials that may otherwise be destined for local landfills.

theExchange is a grass roots program within the Shelter Development 501(c)3 charitable organization. Since the programs founding by a dedicated group of volunteers in 2016 theExchange has served more than 3,000 area households, free of charge. Our program continues to be supported by a large and dedicated team of volunteers who chose to donate their time and talents to serve those in need.
