Shiloh Community Housing, Inc.

Shiloh Community Housing, Inc. was organized in June 2002 with the mission to remove the barriers to safe, affordable housing such as age, income and/or sustainable employment; lack of education ; training and/or skills which would prevent a person from ever obtaining financial sustainability to acquire permanent housing.

Our program and services have been preventing homelessness before it became “the hot topic of the day” by providing support and services to housed families and individuals to keep them housed. We are disrupting the cycle of homelessness before it begins.

The unhoused population in Alaska are at risk of dying during our winter months and the city officials have made it a priority to housed the unhoused.

We learned that the priority to housed the unhoused did not include providing furniture or the basic necessities needed for a home. Families were placed in empty houses!

We feel that a shelter, dwelling or a roof over your head doesn’t make a home. A home is a safe comfortable environment that has the necessities, i.e., a place to sleep, furniture, access to cooking, bathrooms, etc.

Shiloh Community Housing, Inc. opened it’s first Furniture Bank in Anchorage, Alaska, May 31, 2024.

Other programs includes:
– Affordable Housing Rental Based Projects
– A Transitional Home for Single Young Adult Males and Females ages 18-24
– A Financial Assistance Program to prevent families utilities from being shutoff, and assistance with first month’s rent and security deposits
– A Home Starter Kit project that provides the necessities for a kitchen and bathroom

We are in the development stages of a Community Resource Center “a one stop shop for services” which will be located adjacent to the Furniture Bank it will provide:
– An internet cafe (free access to internet)
– Job service center operated by the state Department of Labor
– Physical and mental health services operated by local behavior health practitioners
– Financial and Personal Finance services operated by the local banks
– Child Drop-In center for persons receiving services at the center
