SHARING CONNECTIONS

Sharing Connections stands as a beacon of hope and support in the Chicagoland area, providing essential furnishings to individuals and families in need. Here's how Sharing Connections makes a difference:

Mission and Vision: Founded over three decades ago by a compassionate resident of Lisle, Sharing Connections operates with a clear vision: "Tonight, everyone eats at a table and sleeps in a bed." This guiding principle underscores the organization's commitment to ensuring that all individuals and families have access to the basic necessities that transform a house into a home.

Collaborative Approach: Sharing Connections works closely with a network of referring partner organizations, including domestic violence shelters, housing organizations, food pantries, schools, veterans' groups, and teen parent organizations. By collaborating with these partners, Sharing Connections identifies and addresses the specific needs of diverse populations, including the previously homeless, unemployed and working poor, veterans, victims of domestic violence, immigrants, individuals with disabilities, and those affected by disasters.

Expanding Impact: In 2023, Sharing Connections significantly expanded its reach and impact, adding over 280 new social workers, case managers, and family advocates to its service network. With partnerships established at over 770 locations across Northern Illinois, the organization set a new record of service, impacting the lives of thousands of individuals and families. Their programs, including onsite, direct-to-agency, and on-the-road services, reached over 8,200 children and served a wide range of households, with a focus on veterans, homeless transitioning individuals, and victims of abuse and domestic violence.

Operational Hub: Sharing Connections operates out of a spacious 15,000 square foot warehouse in Downers Grove, serving as a hub for receiving, storing, and distributing donated furniture and household items. Each year, the organization impacts over 17,000 people by providing them with essential furnishings valued at an average of $2,500 per family.

Volunteer-Powered: Central to Sharing Connections' success is its dedicated team of volunteers who contribute their time and energy to maintain the warehouse, assist clients in selecting and picking up furniture, and conduct furniture pickups in nearby communities. Through their collective efforts, these volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals and families in need receive the support they deserve.

As Sharing Connections continues its mission of transforming houses into homes, it remains a cornerstone of compassion and solidarity in the Chicagoland community, embodying the spirit of neighborly care and support for those facing adversity.
