The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio is a charitable organization dedicated to helping families in need by providing essential furniture and household items. Its mission is to offer hope, comfort, and stability by turning empty houses into homes for those affected by homelessness, domestic violence, and other crises. The Furniture Bank runs several key programs:
Daily Impact Program: The Furniture Bank assists 23 families every day, working with local agencies to distribute over 300 pieces of furniture daily. Many families receive up to 20 pieces of furniture during their visit. On average, each family receives goods worth up to $1,400.
Current Needs Program: The organization is currently in need of mattresses (especially twin and queen sizes), box springs, dressers, kitchen tables and chairs, couches, and coffee tables to meet the growing demand.
Collection Program: In response to rapidly increasing community needs, the Furniture Bank aims to collect 80,000 pieces of furniture this year. They have helped over 70,000 central Ohio families since 1998.
Community Support Program: The Furniture Bank relies on various forms of support from the community:
- Over 1,000 people make monetary donations.
- More than 2,000 volunteers contribute their time and talents.
- About 7,000 people donate furniture.
Social Enterprises: The Furniture Bank operates two social enterprises: the Furniture with a Heart Thrift Store and a downsizing and moving business called Downsize with a Heart.
