“Furniture Friends is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides donated furniture to people in need throughout Greater Portland. With ongoing support from the community, we are able to fulfill our mission of “Creating Homes. Rebuilding Lives.”
Why We Do What We Do: Believe it or not, people are living in bare apartments–right here in Portland. Right here in Portland? That’s not okay.
In 2016, Furniture Friends served over 400 households in need by providing the furniture that helped them create new homes for themselves. In so doing, we also supported them in beginning the process of rebuilding their lives.
By providing people with essential furniture, Furniture Friends:
How We Do It: Furniture Friends partners with over 100 local social service providers, hospitals, faith-based organizations, municipalities, and schools to identify people in need who lack the financial resources to purchase furniture on their own. Among the clients we serve are people who have struggled with homelessness and/or substance abuse as well as those living with physical and mental disabilities. We also serve veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and many immigrants beginning their new lives.”
