OTTAWA, ONTARIO
Matthew House Ottawa is a faith-based, volunteer-driven, charitable organization that helps Ottawa’s marginalized population to establish connected, safe, healthy, and dignified homes within our community.
The Furniture Bank’s mission is to distribute quality used furniture and household goods to Ottawa’s marginalized population including refugees, those transitioning from institutions, half-way houses, and shelters, along with others who have lost their possessions.
Originally, Furniture Bank in Ottawa – as a service – was founded in 2008 following an influx of Haitian refugees. Since then, it has grown in response to a community need and today operates in partnership with many local social agencies.
Families supported in 2014
The community service we provide is socially and environmentally beneficial to our community, diverting several tonnes of reusable furniture or other household items from landfills and making those items available to families so that a child can sleep on a bed instead of a blanket on the floor; a family can sit around a table to enjoy a meal instead of eating from their laps; a house can become a safe and comfortable home.
